Dr. Geoffrey M. Habermacher completed his internship at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine in Chicago, Illinois where he also completed his Urology residency. He completed medical school at Emory University School of Medicine in Atlanta, Georgia, where he received both his M.D. and his Ph.D. at Emory. He is board certified with the American Board of Urology.

Dr. Habermacher received several honors during his education to include the Leander W. Riba Urology Award for Outstanding Performance, Empathy, and Skill, the Charles Huggins Award for Urologic Research and the Joseph B. Whitehead Scholarship in Surgery.

Dr. Habermacher’s practice consists of general urology with a special interest in prostate cancer, renal cancer and laparoscopy. Other interests include fishing and military history.

Tony Pinson, M.D., F.A.C.S.

Tony Pinson, M.D., F.A.C.S.

Baptist Health welcomes Dr. Tony Pinson to the UAB Medicine Urology Clinic on the campus of Baptist Medical Center East. Dr. Pinson is a Board-Certified Urologist with sub-specialization in Female Pelvic Medicine and Reconstructive Surgery. He is also a Fellow in the American College of Surgeons. Dr. Pinson received his medical degree from The University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, Michigan. He went on to complete a General Surgery residency at the State University of New York Health Science Center (SUNY) in Syracuse, New York, and a Urology residency at the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

A native of Gadsden Alabama, Dr. Pinson returns to his home state to join the UAB Medicine Multispecialty Clinic and the Baptist Health medical staff. He has more than 25 years of experience in treating general and complex urological procedures. Dr. Pinson is a highly-skilled robotic surgeon with expertise in Female Pelvic Medicine and Reconstructive Surgery providing No-Mesh surgical techniques including pelvic and urethral mesh removal. He is an expert in male and female urological cancers such as bladder, kidney, prostate and testicular cancers, and provides the latest and most effective treatments in erectile dysfunction, male and female urinary and fecal incontinence, overactive bladder, urethral stricture disease and the treatment of general urology needs.

Dr. Pinson is a proud recipient of the Physician Excellence Award and Physician Trailblazer Award from Henry Ford Health System. He is also the Principal Investigator on two major research projects including the study of InterStim therapy in patients with overactive bladder and improving the quality and cost of the treatment of prostate cancer.
Dr. Pinson has extensive knowledge and a proactive approach on improving urology practices in a patient focused and friendly environment. His work is
featured in multiple publications, including Overcoming Urinary Incontinence, the book which he co-authored.

Dr. Pinson is a member of the American Urogynecologic Society, American Urology Association, American College of Surgeons, American Medical Association and The Society of Urodynamics Female Pelvic Medicine and Urogenital Reconstruction. He has held many physician leadership roles, including Chief of Staff and Medical Director during his
career. However, one of his proudest accomplishments is his six years of service as a Lt. Commander in the Medical Corps of the United States Naval Reserves. He has a passion for serving both his country and his community and looks forward to helping people in Central Alabama with their urological needs.

In his spare time, Dr. Pinson enjoys spending time with his family, playing golf, fishing and performing real estate rehabilitation projects.

Amanda Backinger, M.S.N., C.R.N.P. is a board-certified family nurse practitioner by the American Association of Nurse Practitioners. She completed her undergraduate degree at the University of Detroit Mercy, receiving a Bachelors of Science in nursing. She received her nurse practitioner degree from the University of Michigan.

Amanda has both urgent care and urology experience and was honored to be named to the Dean’s List. In her personal time, she enjoys spending time with her husband and three sons as well as being outdoors and antique shopping.

Sherry received her Master of Science Degree in Nursing from the University of South Alabama in 2017. She graduated with distinction and was honored with the Nursing Achievement Award and was inducted into Sigma Theta Tau Honor Society.

Sherry is a dual board certified Nurse Practitioner and successfully obtained education and certification as an Adult Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner and a Family Nurse Practitioner. She has 19 years of diverse nursing experience in multiple high level settings including critical care, emergency medicine, and she obtained post-masters fellowship training in urology. She is a well-qualified addition to our UAB Medicine Urology East Clinic.

Larry Thomas, M.S.N., C.R.N.P.

Larry Thomas received his Bachelor of Science degree in nursing from Auburn University at Montgomery in Montgomery, AL and a Master of Science degree in nursing in the primary care nurse practitioner track from Auburn University in Auburn, AL. He has extensive experience in primary and acute care including caring for critically ill patients and coordinating multidisciplinary care for hospitalized patients. Larry holds an advanced practice nursing license in Alabama. He is board-certified as a Nurse Practitioner by the American Association of Nurse Practitioners and is an active member. He holds certifications in Basic Life Support, Advanced Cardiac Life Support and Pediatric Advanced Life Support. Larry is a veteran of the U.S. Army’s 101st Airborne Division and was honorably discharged with three medals of commendation for actions and duties of service.

Dr. Carlos Gadea received a Bachelor of Science in Biological Sciences degree from Florida International University in Miami, Florida. He received his medical degree from the Escuela Autonoma de Ciencias Medicas de Centro America. He completed his internal medicine residency at the University of Connecticut, Farmington and fellowship in rheumatology at the University of Kentucky, Lexington, Kentucky. He is board-certified in internal medicine and rheumatology. He is also a member of the American College of Rheumatology.

Dr. Gadea is married to fellow physician Dr. Ximena Ruiz and they have one son and one daughter. In their spare time, they enjoy trying new restaurants, spending time outdoors and shopping.

Dr. Ximena D. Ruiz received her medical degree from the Universidad CES - School of Medicine, Medellin, Colombia. She completed her internal medicine residency at the University of Connecticut, Farmington and fellowship in rheumatology at the University of Pittsburgh. She is board-certified in internal medicine and a member of the American College of Physicians as well as the American College of Rheumatology. She is also a member of the International Society for Clinical Densitometry. Dr. Ruiz received several awards during her education including Veterans Administration Award for Excellence in geriatric patient care and teaching at the University of Connecticut.

Dr. Garg has received numerous awards including the Early Career Forum Travel Award, Endocrine 2016. Dr. Nambron completed her residency in Internal Medicine at the Gundersen Medical Foundation in La Crosse, Wisconsin. She completed her first year of clinical fellowship in Endocrinology at the University Hosptial Case Medical Center Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio, and her second year of fellowship in endocrinology at University of Alabama at Birmingham. Dr. Nambron is a board certified internist in clinical metabolic disease and is board-certified by the American Boards of Endocrinology and Internal Medicine. Dr. Nambron received several awards during her education including the Resident Travel Grant Winner awarded by American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists, as well as an award for the American College of Physicians Wisconsin Chapter Scientific Meeting. She also earned membership in the Royal College of Physicians in London, England.

Dr. Thudi received her medical degree from Kakatiya Medical College, Warangal, Telangana, India. She completed a rotating internship at Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Hospital, Warangal, Telangana, India and completed her Internal Medicine residency at McLaren Regional Medical Center, Flint, MI. She completed her endocrinology fellowship at Henry Ford Hospital, Detroit, MI.

She is a board-certified internal medicine physician. She has special interests in thyroid disorders and thyroid biopsies.

Dr. Pranav Patel received his medical degree from BJ Medical College, Gujarat University, Ahmedabad, India. Before he moved to United States, he completed general surgery training in India. He also worked as an adult cardiac surgery fellow at Yale New Haven Hospital for two years before he joined Internal Medicine. He completed his internal medicine residency training and gastroenterology fellowship training at East Tennessee State University. He is board-certified in gastroenterology and internal medicine. He was awarded the Richard Jordan Trust Fund Research Award for two consecutive Academic Years at East Tennessee State University.

She is a Certified Family Nurse Practitioner by the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners Certifying Board. While at Troy University, she received the Georgia Irene Gill Davis Award. Dr. Pamela Strickland is a board-certified general surgeon with over 23 years’ experience specializing in breast surgery. She provides a full range of surgical services to women with breast cancer and other breast diseases.

After earning her bachelor degree from Mississippi College and her masters from the University of Mississippi, Dr. Strickland received her medical degree from the University of Alabama at Birmingham. She then completed an internship at UT Southwestern/Parkland followed by residency at Huntington Hospital in Pasadena, CA. Dr. Strickland was Chief of Medical Staff at Maxwell Air Force Base for three years before deciding to make Montgomery her home. She joined Montgomery Surgical Specialists in 2008 and left to start her own practice, Central Alabama Breast Care, in 2012. Dr. Strickland is a member of the American College of Surgeons, the American Society of Breast Surgeons, the Society of Surgical Oncology, and the Medical Association of the State of Alabama.

Dr. Strickland serves as a clinical assistant professor within the Division of Surgical Oncology at UAB and works collaboratively with medical oncologists, radiation oncologists, breast radiologists, pathologists, and plastic surgeons to provide multidisciplinary care for breast cancer patients.

Dr. Strickland and her husband Michael are the proud parents of two children. In her spare time, she enjoys reading, movies, and cooking.

Jon Marie Cook, M.S.N., A.P.R.N., F.N.P-C is a board-certified family nurse practitioner by the American Association of Nurse Practitioners. She completed her undergraduate degree at Auburn University Montgomery, receiving a Bachelors of Science in nursing. She received her nurse practitioner degree from Auburn University. Jon Marie is a member of Sigma Theta Tau International and Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society. Her clinical interests include breast health evaluation and education with the post-operative management of breast surgery patients.

In her free time, Jon Marie enjoys international travel, game nights with friends, cooking, and reading. She has one daughter who holds her heart.

Trudie Seirafi is an associate member of The American Society of Breast Surgeons and a member of the American Association of Physician Assistants and The Alabama Society of Physician Assistants. She completed her undergraduate degree at Florida International University, receiving a Bachelor of Science in Biology. Trudie went on to the University of Florida College of Medicine, where she graduated with high honors in Physician Assistant Studies. She is a proud recipient of the Service Above Self Award from Rotary International. She has more than 22 years of surgical experience and looks forward to continuing to serve patients for many years to come.

In her spare time, Trudie enjoys art, reading, sailing, sewing, cooking, and playing the piano. She is married to Dr. R.D. Seirafi and they are the proud parents of one daughter.

Dr. John McKinney studied chemistry at Miami University in Oxford, OH and The Ohio State University College of Medicine in Columbus, OH. He completed his general surgery residency at the Good Samaritan Hospital in Cincinnati, OH. Following his general surgery training, Dr. McKinney completed his residency training in Cardiac and Thoracic Surgery at the University of Louisville, where he received advanced training in adult cardiac surgery and attained extensive experience in heart and lung transplantation, valve surgery and circulatory assist devices such as ventricular assist and the total artificial heart. Dr. McKinney also earned his Masters of Business Administration in Medical Management at the University of Texas at Dallas. His training accolades include the John W. Price Award for undergraduate instruction while at the University of Louisville and the Resident Research Award for his work at Good Samaritan Hospital.

Dr. McKinney’s leadership experience includes serving as the Medical Staff President, Chairman of the Department of Surgery and Chairman of Critical Care during his career. He is board-certified by the American College of Surgeons and the American Board of Thoracic Surgery. Dr. McKinney holds memberships with the Society of Thoracic Surgeons, the Florida Society of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgeons and the American College of Physical Executives, and he is a Fellow in the American College of Surgeons.

With nearly 25 years of experience, Dr. McKinney’s clinical interests include adult valve repair and replacement and completing the Carpentier Mitral Valve course, among other advanced courses. He has extensive experience with mitral and aortic diseases, including surgical repair of aortic dissection. He specializes in surgical techniques of the heart and lungs and performs cutting-edge, minimally invasive procedures.

In his free time, Dr. McKinney likes to scuba dive and fly competitively as an aerobatic pilot.

Dr. Lee Roberson received his medical degree from the University of Alabama at Birmingham. He went on to complete an internship at Carraway Methodist Medical Center followed by a surgical residency at the University of Mississippi Medical Center. Dr. Roberson then completed a fellowship in Cardiothoracic Surgery at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio.

Dr. Roberson is board-certified by the American Board of Surgery and the American Board of Thoracic Surgery. He is a proud member of the American Medical Association, American College of Surgeons Candidate Group and a Resident Fellow in the Southeastern Surgical Congress.

With more than two decades of experience, Dr. Roberson specializes in surgical techniques of the heart and lungs and performs cutting-edge, minimally-invasive procedures. He performs the surgical implantation of pacemakers and defibrillators, heart valve repairs, heart transplants and coronary artery bypass surgeries. He has extensive experience with mitral and aortic diseases, including surgical repair of aortic dissection.

Dr. Roberson has completed extensive research on improving and advancing patient care, including his work featured in The Journal of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery.

An Alabama native, Dr. Roberson is thrilled about practicing in his home state and joining a team who is committed to bringing the latest advancements in cardiac care to Central Alabama. Dr. Roberson and his wife are the proud parents of two children.

Mr. Hobbs studied medical science at the University of Alabama at Birmingham’s School of Health Related Professions where he graduated from its surgically specialized Physician’s Assistant Program. He is a member of many professional organizations including the American Academy of Physician Assistants. In his spare time, Norm enjoys traveling with his family, disc golfing, fishing, reading, hiking, photography, baseball and SEC football.
